Signs You Know It’s Time to Remodel Your Kitchen
There are many telltale signs that indicate it’s time to remodel your kitchen. It is one thing to buy a “fixer upper” home with the intention of remodeling the kitchen before or soon after moving in, but if you have lived in your home for while, you might have become accustomed to a kitchen that’s long overdue for a facelift. If your appliances continue to work properly and there are no obvious structural or aesthetic problems, you can go for years without thinking you need to remodel your kitchen. But when you step back and give your kitchen a good hard look, it can quickly become apparent that now is the time for a few basic or even major changes.
A kitchen remodel might be in order if any of the following situations are present:
- The space is too small – Older kitchens tend to be cramped, walled off from the dining area, and designed for only a single cook. In 2014, open-air kitchens are the standard. Families prefer to cook together and participate in activities as a group in the kitchen area.
- The appliances are ancient – Many appliances of yesteryear are terribly inefficient by today’s standard.
- The style is outmoded – While pea green laminate countertops and linoleum floors might have been de rigueur three or four decades ago, that simply isn’t the style that most of today’s homeowners desire. Newer materials such as granite countertops, stainless steel sinks, and laminate flooring are beautiful, functional, and easier to maintain than their predecessors.
These are, of course, just a few of the signs that can suggest you are overdue for a kitchen remodel. Major changes in your life can spur you to remodel your kitchen as well, such as the anticipation of a having a child, the moving in of an elderly parent, or the expectation that you will need to entertain guests more frequently in the near future.
